Laura Schoen is the head of Weber Shandwick’s operations in Latin America. Her responsibilities include managing Weber Shandwick’s network of affiliates and pursuing strategic acquisitions in the region. She joined the company in 2000 as President of Global Healthcare and built the firm’s powerful global healthcare operations.
The current list of clients that Laura has developed and manages in Latin America include Procter & Gamble, Hewlett-Packard, Mattel, Pfizer and Eli Lilly. Her prior experience includes investment banks, high-technology products and support services to customers in the aerospace and building industries, as well as government agencies.
After starting her career in journalism and public relations in Brazil, Laura moved to the United States and became one of the industry’s pioneers in global public relations helping organizations managing challenging international communications issues.
Prior to joining Weber Shandwick, Laura worked for Euro RSCG (1991 – 2000) and at Burson Marsteller (1983 – 1991). At Burson Marsteller, she managed the start up of the company’s operations in Mexico, which represented the Mexican government throughout the NAFTA negotiations.
Laura is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish. Earlier in her career, she worked in broadcasting news and advertising. She earned a B.A. in journalism and holds a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a contributor to many professional publications. She also lectures on issues related to global communications at universities and international congresses.
